Funding Priorities
The Foundation supports organizations that focus on a range of democracy-related issues. These groups employ multiple strategies and approaches in their pro-democracy efforts, and nearly all coordinate and/or partner with other groups in the field. Priorities include ensuring election integrity and unimpeded access to voting; defending against threats to the rule of law; exposing and challenging government corruption, overreach, and lack of transparency; and civic engagement and mobilization. The Foundation is also a long-time funder of organizations working to restore and expand reproductive rights and access to abortion.
The Foundation’s climate and environmental justice grantmaking supports organizations pursuing legal challenges to environmentally destructive laws and regulations, and advocacy for pro-environment policy solutions. Funding is also provided for organizing and movement building; campaigns to expose and change corporate practices that negatively impact the environment and frontline communities; and efforts to ensure independence and scientific integrity in government decision-making.
